Don't waste your food, here are some easy recipes that use up sprouting potatoes, stale bread an

According to a Derbysphere survey the top three foods that we waste most are potatoes, bread and bananas and now here are three recipes so that you don't have to waste anymore.

WRAP, a charity which advises 90% of local authorities on how to recycle waste, also revealed in a report that some of the most wasted foods are potatoes and bread.

The report recorded all the avoidable waste produced in local authorities across the UK from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to London.

It concluded that the most wasted food is potatoes, which was also the same in the Derbysphere survey.

Shamus McFadden, 23 from Chester is a chef de parte at the St David's Hotel in the city which prides itself on its cuisine.

He says that there is no need to waste food and there are some simple recipes that can turn something destined for the bin into something delicious.

He explains: "There are lots of things we can do with these ingredients which will leave no or little waste."

Potatoes

Shamus suggests that a good way to use up potatoes is by making loaded potato skins.

He said: "Potato skins that have been peeled can't be used so can only be used as compost.

"An alternative to peeling them is that people can make loaded potato skins."

He says that instead of peeling potatoes and boiling them when making mash we should bake them instead so we can make the loaded skins as well.

He says: "Bake the potatoes for 45 mins or until soft, half them and scoop the potato.

"You can make a mash from this, then fill the skins with your desired filling and bake again for 5-10 minutes if necessary."

Bread

You can use up bread in many ways said Shamus, one of these is by making crutons.

He said: "Stale bread can easily be cut up and baked into croutons.

"Dice the bread into small cubes, drizzle with oil, season well with salt and pepper and bake for 12 mins till golden.

"This is just the basic crouton recipe but you can put any herbs or spices to flavour them if you want to."

Bananas

Lastly, Shamus says that bananas are safe to eat for a lot longer than people expect.

He says: "Bananas can be eaten until they are literally black but after that they are gonners.

"So they would be good in smoothies and maybe mushed up into porridge."

He also says that for a treat you could make baked bananas.

"If you fancy a treat you cannot go wrong with baked bananas with chocolate in them and it is simple to make.

"Simply cut a banana in half, stuff with chocolate, and put them in the oven for 15 minutes."
